Maybe.
But you have to understand the full picture of China's policy to adequately answer the question. In China you can have more than one child... the catch is that if you do have more than one, then you are financially responsible for their education, not the state.
In a communist society things like this are used in order to safeguard against those who would just sit back and do nothing but have babies because in a communist society everyone is guaranteed the basic necessities of life... ie, food and shelter
Now as far as India, the difference is they are not communist so what sort of justification could be used for the government to take such action? Get what I'm asking? At least in China there is a valid reason because of those guarantees of communism. So, unless they come up with a valid reason other than just enforcing you can't have more than one child, it wouldn't be accepted by the ppl.

No. Here are my ideas of why not:
The one-child policy does not really control the Chinese population. It is basically creating a system where families who believe in the value of having a son rather than a daughter are relinquishing their daughters for adoption. The orphanages are overcrowded, and more than 90% of the orphans are girls. These children are mostly adopted by non-Chinese families overseas. That's a good thing in a lot of ways, and it's a systematic loss of the Chinese culture in a lot of other ways.
Indian culture is similar in a lot of ways to the Chinese culture -- in that boys are often valued more than girls. If they implemented the same policy in India, I foresee the same situation happening there. There are already many parts of India where live male births outnumber live female births something like 1000 to 890. A one-child policy would only make the gap worse.
There was a time when a former Prime Minister of India mandated that every male who already had 2 kids should become sterilized. He actually enforced this policy for some time. It was hugely unpopular. It goes against the cultural and religious beliefs of many to have children to protect the elders in their old age.

The one-child policy in China led to infanticide of female children. The same would happen in India. There are better ways to control population growth. Give women a chance and education and careers so that they will only have a few children, and later in life.

I don't believe any Government should be able to impose how large a Family can be. In China, the policy was 3 Children, not one. and if you failed to have a Son you were allowed to try a 4th time.
No one was really forbidden to have as big a Family as they wanted in China...If you went past the amount of Children, you received less benefits from the Government.

No country should ever have that type of policy.
Tons of Chinese girl babies are left in dumpsters or out in the woods to die just so the family can have a male child.
Male children bring honor and can carry on the family name.
If they can only have one, they want a boy.
It might not be the same in India but still a bad idea.

It would make little sense to do it like China did. It was a complete failure as China's population is approaching 2 billion.

Last I checked, India was a democracy. China can get away with that because it is a Communist state controlled by a murderous regime.

one child policy - its of no use..as it will increase the death rate of female foeticide... and there is going to be shortage of females if u implement it now.. as indian mentality is still stuck into that boy kind of thing...
so adopting this kind of policy is not going to help it..
