I have a dear friend that loves smoking always has. He recently had several strokes at 48 years old. He is still smoking. He will probably die soon. It is very doubtful he will live to walk his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day, or see his first grandchild. Or live to see his son win that first soccer championship or be there as he receives his diploma at graduation. They will have an empty part of their hearts and a sad longing for their dad as many times as he selfishly lit that cigarette and sucked the smoke into his lungs.... Look at that cigarette, it is an ugly poisenous thing that is slowly destroying your body everytime you inhale. The price is way too high. Please don't start, please quit now before it is too late.

Some people were smoking before that message was out there and are just too addicted to it to stop - no matter what.
Other people think 'oh what the heck, everybody is going to die', which is true. The truth is also that most people can live longer and have better quality of life if they don't smoke. If the smoking doesn't kill them, it affects their breathing capacity, heart, energy level, and other physical functions. This helps stop a lot of smokers, especially the women - it causes hideous wrinkles.
We're all free to choose but for me - I would rather eat grasshoppers than pay $7 for a pack of cigarettes.
It's also embarrassing...........non smokers look down on smokers as if they are too weak and undisciplined to be in the same room.

Some people start smoking under peer pressure. Some do it because of stress. Everyone now knows that smoking does kill, and the ones who are doing it now are finding it hard to stop because of the fact they are addicted to it. There are many reasons why people smoke. Some cultures even smoke religiously/spiritually, out of festivity, and some even do it because it is looked down upon in society.

Smoking wasn't advertised as dangerous when I took it up at the school. Im glad we are being educated not to smoke and being made aware of its affects. Maybe they should consider providing help those that where hooked on it back when it was cool. Its very easy to say just give up it will kill when you obviously have never smoked.
Watch Alice in wonderland again the first 5 characters are SMOKING this what we where brought up on.

well i am addicted to smoking. It is a mental and physical addiction. That is why it is hard to overcome.
To quit smoking you have to have the will power and actually want to quit.
The nicotine is the physical addiction. The mental addiction develops overtime when you smoke when you are bored, after you eat, when your in the car, when you wake up.. etc.
Most people do not realize the consequences of smoking before they start, and once they do its too late.
Like i said, it's all about will power. You have to want to quit. That is why most people fail.

Maybe because we always think that it won't happen to us, we tried are first cigeratte thought it was gross but had another one and then another one and then realized we were hooked and craved the nicotine...........we put it into out lifestyles like when we wake up we go outside and have our morning coffee and cigarettes, I guess we think we can't have the coffee with out the ciggie!!! Plus we enjoy the buzz or something to do out of boredom or an oral fixation instead of shoving our face with food. I don't know I guess it is true we only have one life, but I guess if we didn't smoke our one life would be longer??

I think I still smoke because it pisses me off that everyone is trying to take my freedom to make a choice away. One by one we are losing our rights and privileges to do anything in this country and it pisses me off. If you watch the news you also know that there isn't much they tell you that won't kill you anyway. I could count the things on one hand that won't kill you sounds paranoid to me and I have been smoking for years.

Well, the answer is quite simple: cigarettes(i hope i spelled that right) which contain tobacco, act as a drug when you are inhaling the smoke produced by burning it.. As we all know, drugs make people to scream for some more. When our power of selfcontol is much weaker than the desire, we continue to use drugs.. Hope that i made it clear to you, even though i think that you aldready knew the answer :)

It's an addiction. And like most addictions, the addicts think 'It won't hurt me', or 'I have only one life to live', or 'It's my life so I can do what I want'.
And it goes completely over their heads that it can hurt them.
Think of this next time you want to light up: Most firefighters can tell you that most people die of suffocation before the fire reaches them. So, what're you doing every time you inhale. Also think of this: Carbon Monoxide is a major component of smoke. And carbon monoxide is a known 'silent killer'. Again, what're you taking into your body every time you inhale?
Case closed.
