I bought a sterling silver and turquoise ring. Is there any way that I can figure out if it is REAL turquoise (without taking it to someone to examine it)?

The real turquoise has some flaws thrue them, maybe some gold running thrue, or white, if it is all smoth and perfect, it's a fake

It's perhaps more a question of what kind of turquoise it is versus is it real turquoise. It could be "real" turquoise if it is "chalk" turquoise ground into a powder, then plastic and dye added to form a solid turquoise stone. Practically all turquoise in the market is enhanced in some way. I will list a link to our website if you would like to read more. Bottom line, if you like the ring, that's the main thing. Use a hot needle (heat it over a candle) and touch it to the stone- if it is a real stone nothing will happen- if it is plastic it will sizzle and melt.

A "real" gem has to breath....check the back of the stone to see if the band is opened so the gem can breath.
