In actuality, 'pertnear' is not a word at all. What you have heard all your life is a fudging together of two words.. pretty and near.. such as "I pretty nearly lost my temper." as opposed to "I pertnear lost my temper." or 'Are you finished with your homework?" the answer is "pertnear" meaning "pretty near" which obviousoy means ..almost.

I have also heard it all my life and I always took it to mean, "Pretty Close", or "You're pretty close." Maybe not the true meaning but pertnear it.

"pertnear" (and "prit near") are slang expressions for the colloquialism "pretty near" meaning "almost". Yes, "slang colloquialism" basically means slang that has been further "slanged".
