This WC has had a slogan all along 'A Time to make friends' 'Say no to racism' written on the banner displayed before the start of the games. Aside from racist remarks that were made( by fans) against black players in the league in Spain, German Neo-Nazis went on a match shortly before the WC began brandishing 'White, not just the colour of the national jersey'. Recently, (during the WC) the Spanish coach made racist comments against Thierry Henry(of the France team) just befor their match.
It is in the spirit of all these 'past, present' that is why the speech was given. But the stance against racism has been in this WC all along.

It's to promote frienship and to fight discrimination.. I really had no idea what it was yesterday when it was read in the Germany and Argentina game, but I understood when Beckham read it today in English. It's basically reminding the people watcing all over the world about tolerance. I really liked it. I'm not sure why they just started doing it now, I only noticed it done in this stage in the games, also taking a picture with the "Say no to racisim" banner...

I don't know why they started to do it now but even before the start of the world cup fears had been expressed about racist attacks especially against blacks. As u might know there are still a few neo Nazis in Germany who just can't seem to be able to stand blacks.

It's not caused by an incident, it's just part of "FIFA Anti-Discrimination Days", almost every year the FIFA does something like this since 2001. For example they did the same thing at the semi finals of the confederations cup last year.

They've been doing similar stuff. A lot of banners had that stuff on it throughout the games.
Germany is not the only country with problems, in fact they are by far not the worst. Italy and Spain have HUGE racist problems.

FIFA and the wc's organizers wanted to give a message to the world. That's it.

racism. they did it in all the quater-final matches. they want to stop racism, probably because of spains coach. he was being racist and calling henry a black b*tch. he said that he was just trying to motivate his defender but fifa wanted to make sure racism was not spred because of the world cup.
