I would turn it in. The chances of a child finding what I might have, in the hypothetical sense are astonishing. I have known of these cases and you are dealing with danger here.
It could be a drop off place, and being watched, or a mistake on the part of someone or perhaps someone got scared and left it there. For all you know it is being watched. I really think that the best thing to do is to definitely turn it in to the authorities.

Depends on where it was....i found a joint at my work where the painters left it. Discretely gave it to my boss, didnt want clients seeing it. Don't know if he smoked it or not, lol.
