The Sign In button used to have an arrow next to it, so that when you clicked on the arrow, you had to option to go directly to Mail. Now that window only comes up after you sign out, then sign back in.

Have you configured My Yahoo to show a Mail Preview pane? I have my Mail Preview Pane at the top, so when My Yahoo starts, it automatically lists any new mail in my Inbox. If there is mail, I can click on any of the messages, and it takes me directly to Mail Inbox and the message itself. This is even handier than logging into the Mail Inbox; saves a couple of clicks.

when you go to sign into your yahoo account, there is a check box that says remember this information on this computer (something like that) and everytime you open your internet you are logged in, i think ever few hours you will have to re enter you password but your id will stay there.
