My brother needs helping establishing himself work-wise and home-wise in our home country which is a 27 hour flight from USA. My bro hasn't been in the country for 40 year. My bro also has below-average intelligence. My boyfriend says it is selfish for me to leave him and our two dogs to help my brother for two weeks get settled in a different country. I am clueless and selfish?

My advice to you is to remember that brothers and sisters are gods gifts to us. When we are going through hard times they are there to support us. So think about this... If your brother cannot look to you for that support and guidance then who can he look to? Also this is your brother vs. boyfriend. There should be no contest. My sisters are some of the most important people in my life and there is nothing that will ever change that. I have told my husband staight up do not try to make me chose between him or my sisters because he will lose everytime. Your brother needs you and you need your brother. He is moving evidently very far away so take the 2 weeks with him and cherish that time. With him so far away those times are limited. Go.

No, you are not selfish. I dont' think 2 weeks is that long a time. Many people regularly travel that much. It's not like you're planning on doing this once a month. You're pretty selfless if you ask me. Sounds like the boyfriend is pretty selfish though......

27 hours? does he live on the moon?
seriously, two weeks is nothing.
your boyfriend has no grounds for complaint unless you are investing a large amount of money in the venture.
