Take a table salt bath. Warm water. Rub salt all over the chigger bites. This will burn, but it will relieve the itching.

You are correct in asking how to treat the bite. I'm not a Doctor but I have had my share of chiggers.

Sealing the bite wound from air is important (it is not so the chigger smothers and dies). That’s why fingernail polish helps. Fingernail polish boths seals the wound and protects it from being scratched and contaminated by dirty fingernails etc. Its one of my favorite home remedies. Any kind of ointment that seals the wound will help. Antihistamines, such as hydrocortisone help reduce the itch.

I used alcohol once- DON’T USE ALCOHOL. After using alcohol (its all I had) my bites didn’t clear up for 3 months!

Ok you may think this is wierd, but here goes. First, get some rubbing alchohol and rub on the spot where the chigger is. then take some clear fingernail polish - just a tiny dab - and put on top of the chigger. Be still and let the polish dry. You'll need to do this under a bright light, cause the pesky little things are so dang small and hard to see! It's wierd, but it works! Stops the itching and kills em dead. Can you tell I'm a true deep South born and bred gal?

There is a product called ChiggerRid. It coats the chigger, cuts off the air supply and killes it. It also has an anti itch property.

Another way is to coat the area with clear nail polish. Works the same with out the anti itch.
