what is the best 3d software for industrial design?

Solidworks seems to be becoming the industry standard. Goes straight to manufacturing.

For rendering 3DS Max and Maya are pretty good. I know some people who use Alias and Rhino but I stick to Solidworks.

Autocad ? are you kidding... its one of the following.. rhino 3D, or 3D studio max. For maximum results you should invest in a third party ray tracing renderer.
