The teams were about equal I think, though both teams could have played much, much better. I don't like the way Sven played Rooney up front by himself - partner him with Lennon (not Crouch). Rooney let himself and England down by getting sent off - probably from the frustration of not seeing enough of the ball. Not an excuse, but you have to know your players.
I'm afraid that I cannot support Portugal through to the next round as I believe they come close to Italy and Argentina as being the worst teams in the world for cheating and faking (witness the match against Holland)

Both England and Holland played better football than Portugal. Portugal couldn't even score against a 10-man England team

Yes they are better..the history of "Gifts" Penalties that is what they are "Gifts" they always have had a hard time just like Sweden and the many draws..ha....Erickson is out and the New manager who will have more spirit and passion that is what is missing from Erickson...lets see the next world cup the 3 lions are roaming and will only be quietened for a short time..

horrible question....England was outplayed by Portugal...they were extremely fortunate to draw a shootout. England was outplayed by Ecuador, as well. English fans should be rejoicing for having made it as far they did on such mediocre talent.
