the police officer put the wrong date on the summons (he was off by 3 days, he put June 26th instead of 29th). Is the ticket still valid?

As a legal document, I would imagine that precedence would dictate that the information must be accurate to be binding.

Edit: When I say date I mean "date of issue" and not "date of scheduled court appearance". i.e., the summons states that the offense occured on June 26th, when it had in fact occured on the 29th.

Yes the ticket is still a valid legal document. All you have to do is call up the department and explain that he put the right date. If you don't show up in court they can put a warrent out for your arrest. You can't use the excuse the date was wrong because if you knew and didn't inquire about it, it would be your fault.
I use to work for a police department and sometimes they did write the wrong date but only the judge can get rid of the ticket no one else.

Show up on June 26th. Ask to have the case dismissed for lack of prosecution! Well, seeing as those dates are both in the past, that's what he SHOULD have done!

a mistake is a mistake, we all make them its called being human!! the rightful thing to do was to either tell them about it, or call them up n confirm the date if u weren't sure, but other than that yes it is a legal document!!

sorry to tell you traffic court does not normally hold those standards or they will merely have the officer rewrite the ticket and hand you a new one in court. ( remember this is merely a summoms, so it can be rewritten and re-isued.

You would want to check with a lawyer about the details.
