Yeah if I remember right the first two vampires were a pharoah and his wife in Egypt. They were posessed by an evil spirit that longed to be a part of the material world.

I seem to remember that in 'Memnoch the Devil," Memnoch references that vampires evolved as a sort of mutation of normal human genes - vampires became something "outside of nature" and though I don't think it says where exactly vampires first lived, I got the impression that it was in or at least near the Middle East. I could be wrong, but that's what I remember of the book.
