leopard geckos are a good choice. Easy to care foor. Eat crickets, mealworms, superworms, waxworms. Need a warm side of a tank (undertank heater the best) for 1/2 the tank. Stay around 6 or 7 inches. Soft skin, non violent.
Beardeds are nice also. They need a high heat basking area and UV lights to process calcium. They eat the same except for Beardies eat veggies too. Big males I have seen go 17 inches most around a foot. Their spikes get ya sometimes. Very mild when tamed. Check out www.leopardgecko.com

geckos, they get up to like one or two feet;also asking a pet store employee is a good idea. But if you do get a gecko and later decide you want another, you have to get the other(s) while the first one is young.

Salamanders are fun and they look cool. They definitely stay small enough too. You can get them at a pet store or depending on where you live sometimes you can find them in your backyard.

Probably a gecko or a brown anole, which is native to Florida and quite harmless.
