There's a large difference between being sad and having unipolar depression. Depression is a clinical condition that meets certain criteria. It afects our everyday behavior and manifests itself through many psychological and physiological signs.

Just being sad however is something we all deal with. Nobody goes through life with a smile on their face and not a care in the world. Some people are more apt when dealing with sadness than others though... But being sad itself isn't always a bad thing. It's natural... But there is a line when prolonged sadness turns into clinical depression. A few questions to ask yourself..: How many hours a day do you think about depressing or sad thoughts? Does it affect your behavior in home and in society at large? Do you find yourself sleeping more, or being unable to sleep at all?

That's a very incomplete list, but it's a start... Think about it. And, if it worries you that much or you really truly believe it's abnormal, talk to someone with knowledge and experience...

If you are in certain situations, it is quite normal to ALWAYS be sad . . . for a time. If your beloved spouse is dying a painful death, you are going to be thinking a lot of sad thoughts and be pretty sad for a long time. (I lost my youngest child and was diagnosed with cancer within a few months of each other. I wasn't happy for at least 3 months, not for a moment. But it wasn't bad, it was right.)

If someone, however, feels sad more than they can stand, or has trouble getting an important paper simply signed and mailed, or just thinks that it's all too much, then that can be bad, and they may need help to fix it. Professional help. I'd ask them to talk to their doctor, or even help them make an appointment, and take them to it.

Because people don't have to feel sad forever, even if they don't know how to stop it.

Yes it is bad to always be sad. Because being sad all the time gets us nowhere. That leads to not wanting to be positive about anything. What are you gone to be positive about if your always sad all the time? Think and talking sadness, how are you really able to cope and deal with things in life if your always sad. A person like that needs positive things in their life and to be positive. Be happy about something or make and find a way to be happy. Make yourself be happy. I used to be sad all the time and sadness leads to depression and even worse thing's and no one should want that.

TO ALWAYS be sad, YES! Your mind, your body, the Eiffel Tower. It doesn't matter. If it takes too much, SOMETHING is going to give!! I think that's what people mean when they say "have a balance" in life. Work, be serious at work. Be serious about your partner, your kids, Church, and sometimes on occassion, go see a funny movie, and relax with your buddies. Everything in moderation.

To be sad sometimes is ok but not always, you must find a reason to smile about, you should be thankful because you are alive, be happy, I´m sending you 2 jokes, the first one might be not that funny if I translate it but I know you speak spanish. ENJOY!

Estaban unas manzanitas en un árbol cantando alegres de repente una se cae al suelo y todas se ríen de ella, pero la manzanita se levanta, se sacude y les dice "Ha! Inmaduras!!" jajajaja
