Alcohol has a long history of legalisation and the US prohibition of alcohol in the 1930s with its "speak-easys" and mob killings proved the futility of total restriction. It is an entrenched part of Western culture and moderation and total prohibition when operating cars and other machines is the way forward.
Marijuana is seen as a foreign substance by the elder ruling elites that govern our countries and is feared largely through ignorance. Cigarettes kill more people.

Alcohol is legal people doesn't care to break the rules and get more out of control, marijuana is illegal and people hide themselves to do it.
once that marijuana will be legal you will see more accidents because like alcohol users also won't care and only will get a minimum punishment from the cops.

because if marijuana was legal then we could grow our own and there would be no way to tax it like alcohol.....no government profit.

You are right , alcohol should be illegal, but we did that once and it was a disaster.. People want bad things even if it kills them..
