you dimwits out there saying it was red card. he wasnt even carded for the boot to the crotch (which if you look at again, was unintentional) it was for the push on ronaldo(which should have been at worst a yellow card. why do you think everyone was surprised!!!

i think some refs have their own issues and get irritated easily. Afterall they are not perfect human beings, are they.

oh yeah, and they same ref sent off beckham (with a straight red) in a club game

Yeah! Was a bit of shock. I'm still stunned that Figo's head butt wasn't even considered red card worthy. Scolari's team always playing cheap and dirty.

Also, I'm surprised that FIFA appointed a ref from Argentina. Why can't they just use video replays. They would have seen a tumble instead of groin kick. I guess FIFA wants to exclude technology so they can have refs decide games.

I think it was a yellow card until he pushed Ronaldo. Even as an England supporter I think he deserved the red, he can't get away with acting like that all the time. He had it coming. He did grab the guys crotch and then stamp on him.

Intentionally stepping on people is an automatic red, and Rooney's attitude wasn't helping. If you want to kick the Portuguese, do your team a favor and don't do it right in front of the ref, Rooney.

I didn't think it should have been a red card either. I was under the impression that he got it for pushing ronaldo, who had no business being there to begin with. Plus the fact that ronaldo gave a little wink as he walked away just proved how snakey he is.

rooney is an over-rated hot head. After stepping on the guys groin, he should have walked away, but instead he decides to push his teammate, who had done nothing to him. As far as i'm concerned, that deed says everything about his character. He has none, and yes he deserved what he got.

rooney, smarten up and stop the steriods.

In reality christiano ronaldo cheated everyone, as he in fact provoked rooney, something the portugals are good at, seeing how they provoked holland, so the red was too much I think

Absolutley not. A yellow card, maybe, and a strict warning, but defintely not a red card.

yea but did anyone see the portugal players were setting rooney up for it. then winked when he got sent off. They know what he's like and they played him.

it should of been a foul before all that happened to rooney, anyway, the card was given for pushing ronaldo as the ref was right in front of them all, and when he pushed ronaldo, he signalled him over and sent him off, he wasn't interested prior to that
