Radio Stations are "Given call letters agreed to by other countrys
the K and W are for the USA
c is for canada
ve and va are for canada hams
ve3 and va3 are fro canada ham radio ops
short wave , ham radio and others are givin these prefixes so that we know what country they come from
There are "DX " hunters that listen for radio sigs from all over on Am ON FM and short wave bands So they need to know what country the station is in. Thus set prefexes for all countrys

ve3ded
ve for candada
3 for ontario

This depends on what side of the Mississippi river that the station is on. It's not only radio stations, but also TV stations too. Everything east of the Mississippi will have a W, and everything west of the Mississippi will have a K. Best of luck to you..........

that was the way the govt set it up back in the 1920's as to why they picked this combination or lack of you should visit the govt web site for radio air space.
