lets answer this in 2 ways to consider the different points of view

1) as a coin collector i would have to say no, ist a great coins, plus lincoln was one of our best presidents, and its the longest running coin in US history, the small cent which started in 1856, and the lincoln cent which started in 1909, 3 more years and it will be a centenial coin, longest ran design

2) but on the other hand, it costs the mint 1.2 cent to make a coin with a face value or 1 cent, not cost efective. they could make it out of a less expenzive metal but copper gives it a lovly shine. but if they do deside to quite making it, they wont stop completly, they will comtinue to mint them but in small numbers and not release them for circulation, which means collectors like me can only get them from the mint

Yes, because the price of zinc (the main metal in the Penny) is going up! The metal in the penny is worth about 1.4 times the actual value of the penny. Therefore it costs more to produce the penny than it is actually worth!

Prices in shops should change from odd to even amounts of cents to accommodate for this. For example, you could change the prices of products costing $19.99 to $19.98 or $20.00.

Now you're just being silly........
what has Penny done that is so awful you want to off her? she's very useful - if the price were $2 the sales assistant could just say 'Okay $2 thank you very much for your custom, bye'... and then pocket the $2. IF, however it were $1.99 they have to ring in the sale to get the PENNY change! So the .99 part of the price was initially to avoid staff dishonesty.

I know.....I WAS that sales assistant!!!

If we got rid of the penny, then would the dollar be worth only 95 cents?
