I have been using vodka on an rag for years now, it works decent on oily stains. 90% rubbing alcohol will do similar.

I use trainer Cleaner Gel that you get from good shoe shops and sport shops, the gel comes in a tube with a brush apply er which gets down to the stain, I also use baby wipes, very quick and easy, if there good for a baby then they will be OK for carpets.

I don't think there are any 'safe' household chemicals.

Anyway,it all depends on what color your carpet is. If it is white go ahead and bleach it.

Many people dont ever thing of doing this but make a laundry detergent paste (laundry detergent with a little water) smear it on the rug and RUB with a damp cloth. Vacuum it up. Steam Clean.

And Voila !!!!!!
