Why is it that people do the Goth, Punk, Emo or prep catorgorizing? Isn't it supposed to be used for music?

there is no such thing as prep music, but i can see what u mean.
i hate it when people catagorize each other, it is unfair to everyone

well most of the time if one is known for listening to a certain type of music then they are catorgorized as being that certain type of person which shouldnt always be that way

we do this because we catergorize everything so that it all makes sense to us. Its got nothing to do with music, thats just where we get the names.
