Corvette 1974

The 1974 Corvette had three engine options. The base engine was a 350 ci 195 hp small block. The L82 was also a small block 350 ci rated at 250 hp. The LS4 was a blig block 454 ci 270 hp engine.

If you are trying to determine which engine you have, the VIN will help decode. VIN's for '74 looked like this: 1Z37J4S400001. If the 5th digit is a J, that's the L79 350/195. If it is a T, that is the 350/250. If it is a Z, than that is the 454/270.

They came with two different versions of the 350.An L-48 ,which was the standard engine available and the L-79 which was the hi-performance 350,which coincidentally almost had the same horsepower as the available 454 big block which was a low compression engine. I had smoked about three big block vettes with mine before I built the engine it has in it now.

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.

Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net that has been around since 1995.

if its an all matching numbers car you can just about name your price for it,right now in average condition they are bringing around 30 thousand and up,the big block cars was the most wanted of them all,if i had it i wouldn't ask no less than 25 thousand for it,i seen one at a car show about a year ago and the guy had paid well over 40 grand for it because it was an all matching numbers car, look around on the corvette sites before you price it,good luck

There are cast numbers which are stamped on your engine block. Write all of them down and find a website or they even sell books that can tell you exactly what you need to know.
