Because... the gun barrel Was really hot and Superman didn't want to burn his little prissy dress.

Because, there is no Superman, just an actor, playing the part.
Even if the gun was a rubber one, it could hurt him, and stop production, which costs the studio money.
The bullets, were added on, after the shot, so they weren't real either.

Thanks for posting Jerry Seinfeld's material.

But the simple fact is that the special effect bullets (such as they were back then) weren't gonna hurt George Reeves (the first TV Superman) but the very real prop gun was gonna leave a very real welt on the real actor.

He didn't want the gun to bounce off him and hit innocent bystanders. Or perhaps an invisable little birdie whispered in his ear, "Your shoe is untied." While bent down to tie it, he realized that he doesn't have any show laces - so, to the author/illustrator, it just looked like he ducked, and that's what we see in the comics or the movie.

He is afraid that the barrel of the gun might hit him in the eye and take it out, notice that the bullets go nowhere near his eyes.

Well. If he is anything like the way Superman is portrayed in this last movie, he doesn't want it to muss his hair.

because....because...Oh, i comprehend. because... F*ck it. i do not have a clue. yet when i had to wager it could be because the stupid f*cking manufacturers of the action picture have not were given a unmarried braincell to apply between them. Or, it would nicely be a good mistake. yet i opt to imagine that they are all imbeciles. only for kicks. =]

The same reason Tarzan doesn't have a beard. Hollywood is stupid.
