I've met a few transgendered people and there just like anyone else so why should they have to put up with such harsh discrimination from everyone else? oh and is transphobic a real word or did i just make it up?

People who fear others just because of their sexuality is just plain ignorance to me, especially the homosexuals who say they "don't understand" transsexuals....what is there not to understand??? that's how they feel comfortable of who they are and express themselves that way...the same way as us homosexuals do.Who are we to judge? Straights,bisexuals, homosexuals, transsexuals all lead to one common thing= HUMAN BEINGS.
P.S=transphobic is a word =)

First of all, for a pretty long time, I "didn't get it" either. But I admitted that I didn't get it, and recognized that that's NOT a valid reason to place judgement or avoid or otherwise mistreat or even otherly-treat a group of people. As such, I can say I pretty much DO get it now, in large part thanks to a very dear friend.

As for the actual question you asked, yes, there's the "T" lumped into GLBT, but the truth is it's a very different movement, and in my estimation, it's behind the gay movement. Not due to slow-ness or anything like that, but it got started later. As such, the social aspect is behind the gay movement. The perception of gay people still isn't great, but the perception of trans people is worse. It's unfortunate, and I can only hope that in 20 years neither will be an issue anymore. :(

In the meantime, I intend to do what i can to achieve that goal.

I have absolutely no problem with trannies. Shoot, I'm a chick, but I consider myself androgynous--or both-sexed. I identify with guys and girls but I don't feel macho or feminine. Not that I tell many people but my boyfriend and a couple fo my exes.

I've known two transgendereds--both physically male. one had some serious psychological issues, I believe caused by his family as he had been disowned. The other was just like a girl but was a guy.

My heart breaks for anyone who feels they are different--even to the point of persecution-- because of who or what they are--whether you are a female in a male's body, a Black in a White's body, a homosexual in Podunk, Kansas. I believe that the cure for all the misunderstanding and hate is empathy, the ability to be in another's shoes.

I don't know if you made the word up, but it is a useful word. To be honest, you're going to read a lot of comments about trans people, and they aren't going to be informed. They're going to be hateful, but never with a supporting reason why. And that being the case, I would think it safe to assume there is no good reason why.

I don't know where transphobia comes from, either. Sometimes nature makes a mistake and puts a woman's soul in a man's body and vice-versa. I applaud people who are brave enough to do something about it.

Transgendered people are definitely NOT like everyone else. If you weren't lying your *** off, you would know that.

Not wanting to be around people like this has only one source....experience being around people like this.

Seriously. They are freaks. And anyone who spends 5 minutes around one figures this out real quick.

Nobody normal wants to be around that nonsense.

Yes, it's a real word and you have plenty of examples of them here in your answers. Their stupid explanation is "I don't get it". Give me a break. People only like people who are like them - even some gay people (who should definitely know better).

It's like homophobia, to put it simply. But it's more like biphobia since even some homosexuals don't like them.
That's obviously not helping our whole "wanting equal rights" cause, but what can you do?

good question, I can admit I fear what I don't understand. I'm gay, but I don't like trannys. I just don't get it.
