i currently am a car salesman in a high line mercedes dealership. being a carsales person can have its ups and downs. the downs are long hours, idiot customers that give u no respect, no guarenteed income and alot of dead time like now. the market is currently very slow. the upsides are, great income at times. i average anywhere from 60k and up. there are salespeople here who make 200k a year. if you are good with people, can talk to anyone without any problems, honest and self motivated then maybe car sales is a good business for you. make sure u get into a good dealership. but be prepared to get $%^& on by customers, managers and your spouse if ya have a few bad months. funny thing about car sales. everyone thinks we are dishonest a$$hles trying to rip them off. but thats the way it used to be. everyone i work with are straight forward honest people who are just trying to make a living like everyone else. you need to be aggressive tho-and ask for the deal when the time comes. if u cant close, u will have a hard time unless the store has a closer available for you. of course that means splitting the commission as well. overall i have been working for dealerships for 27 years. service dept, parts dept, internet dept and retail sales. i live very comfortable, but when its slow like now i freak out. good luck
