It could be a number of things. If there is fever present, with a change in "bathroom" habits and if you push in and let go and it hurts worse when you let go, then it could be your appendix. Appendix pain can radiate on either side of the stomach, though it is typically on the right side above the hip, closer to the middle than the side itself. It could be your ovary ovulating. If you have had surgery, it could be scar tissue pulling. It could be a number of things, depending on your symptoms.

It could be any number of things.
Something that happens frequently is this:
There are membranes that surround our organs that are sensitive to pain, so they can alert us if something goes wrong. Sometimes things shift around in there, and the membranes can get pinched and cause pain until they shift back into place. A lot of people get this in their chest when the membrane around their lungs gets pinched in their ribs.
If this happens frequently it might be wise to see a doctor, just to make sure nothing is really wrong -- because, like I said, it could be caused by a lot of things. And if it ever occurs with fever, sweating, or nausea, you need to see a doctor immediately -- and if it ever gets worse, see a doctor right away.

keep warm, including when sleeping.
outdoors you should wear a hat (called a beanie here) if cold.
I have a similar pain that gets worse if I don't exercise enough and if I don't get enough sex.
it could be pain from your appendix or digestive tract, so attention to diet may be needed. drink spring water, the tap stuff isn't good.
if all else fails, seek medical advice.

If it hurts a lot, and is on your right side, it could be your appendix. Mine used to cause stomachaches for years before I had to get it removed [because it was about to burst].
If the pains continue, you should go to a doctor.
