I have very painful periods and heavy bleeding every time but every month it gets worse. The pain is getting too hard to handle. It actually keeps me bedridden for a day or two. All signs point to endometriosis. The only way to confirm diagnosis is a laproscopic surgical procedure. I do not have any medical insurance (I can't afford to get any) and I really doubt the county health department (which is where I get my primary medical care) will cover such a procedure. Is there any other way I can have this procedure done? I can't afford to lose anymore work time to this disorder.

I cannot use birth control pills. I tried that once and nearly died from them.

There was an article in the ERC's newsletter about this. I found it online at http://www.hcgresources.com/insurance.htm. I hope it helps. Also contact the ERC directly at http://www.endocenter.org. Also, hospitals cannot turn you away based on your ability to pay. Medicaid also covers surgical procedures. http://www.cms.hhs.gov/center/asc.asp. Good luck to you and feel better.

I would try contacting your doctor or the local hospital, see if they have any financial counselling. If you can prove that the surgery is necessary sometimes they will cover it. My mom had to have heart surgery and there was no way we could cover it, she had no insurance and the bill was like 30 grand. The financial counselor was able to figure out a way for the government to pay it all.

Good luck, I hope you can find in help.

In the meantime non-doctor things that help are: ib profen, heating packs, massage (if it's not too painful), healthier diet (lots of fruits and veggies, organic meat since they use hormones to make the animals fatter and endo is a hormone related disease), exercise if it's not too painful, hot tubs, pools, etc.

You do need to go to a physician to have any sort of diagnosis confirmed. You could try a women's clinic or Planned Parenthood clinic. If they cannot give you the medical care you need, they might be able to help you find a hospital or doctor that can give you the appropriate care and help with your difficult insurance situation. I am sure there is a clinic or hospital somewhere that can work with you, especially if you are so ill.

Best of luck.

My friend has endometriosis and she said that getting on birth control really helped ease her symptoms. Birth control generally lightens periods and reduces cramping. There is probably a clinic nearby that you can go to and get birth control since you don't have medical insurance. They might be able to give you a discounted rate. Of course, talk to your doctor first before you do anything.

That is what I thought I had. Have you tried birthcontrol pills? If you haven't then you should (health departments base it on your income). My doctor put me on yasmin and it worked wonders. My stomach didn't hurt as bad and I didn't bleed as much because I was like you and would have to stay in bed while I was on my period.....so try it! I hope it helps you.
