From downtown Chi-town to its outskirts between 40-50 miles depending on the city border. Then you hit all the lovely suburbs
for another 50 miles. The lights of Chicago and surrounding area can be seen from the ISS (International Space Station),
impressive huh ! Spent the first 50 years of my life growing up in Chicago, and have retired to Florida for my next 50 years.
Just couldn't handle the winters anymore.

If you drew a rectangular box around the city, it would be roughly 21 miles east to west and 25 miles north to south.
That box would include a lot of land that isn't in Chicago.
Those measurements are based on:
West boundry of O'Hare airport on the west.
Indiana state line on the east.
Howard Street on the North.
138th street on the south.
Note: You can drive Western Avenue from Howard St. to 138th
it's the longest street in Chicago.

Do you mean square miles?
Miles across?
Greater metropolitan Chicago or merely the Chicago city limits?
Here is some information that may help you depending on what you really want to know.
I believe this is for the official Chicago city limits, or for an area served by Chicago municipal services. The greater metropolitan area, often called Chicago, is much bigger.
