I agree with you that they shouldn't be referred to by the "colour" of their skin. But by the same token if they were born in the United States they can't be referred to as African-Americans can they since they weren't born in Africa???

Why can't they just be Americans like everyone else??? Or Canadians? Or North Americans which would cover - Canadians, Americans AND Mexicans!!!

People of European decent are sometimes referred to as Whites, even though there are actually several genetic heritages.

I know blacks who refer to themselves as blacks. I'm not sure why people even need to distinguish skin colors, but we do. I don't think it's necessarily derogatory.

It is true that blacks aren't black, but are brown. For whatever reason, that came to be the term which is acceptable to most.

I don't know. I don't think in today's society it's wrong. I don't say African American because I'm not refered to as "Caucasian"...I'm white, lol. I think we should spend less time worrying about what to call people and what to be called, and more time worrying about getting along.

Yes, you're right, but what do Afro Americans have to say about it? It's their prerogative.

And I'm not white either. As you can see from my avatar I'm kind of yellow and pink. That's right. But it's not a racial thing.

ur right, nobody should call somebody by their color, and i wish people would stop doing it because it is inconsiderate and its true that nobody is the color black.
ur not being mislead, ur opening your mind and addressing one of the overlooked issues of this country. if only everybody were that way...

i think its better to refer them as afro americans as many consider referring someone by his skin colour is a bias form of addressing.
