The worst thing about neuropathic pain is that medications are only marginally effective. Depending on the cause of the pain, other options, including surgical or ablation therapy would work best.
But, your question was about medications. So...
Neurontin (gabapentin) reportedly has a decent rate of effectiveness. This medication should be started low (300mg/day) and then titrated up to the minimum effective amount. I have seen people use up to 1800mg/day.
Cymbalta is a new medication that came out relatively recently specifically with the intention to treat neuropathic pain. I have not seen or recommended it much so I cannot say how well it works.
Older but also effective drugs are desipramine, nortriptyline and amitriptyline. They are (tricyclic) antidepressants but have also been known to have effects on neuropathic pain. These tend to have more side effects so these are generally not first line treatments. But don't be scared away from using them.
Ultram (tramadol) reportedly works well also but there are precautions for using it (can cause seizures, etc.).
Strict narcotics (morphine, Dilaudid/hydromorphone, OxyContin/oxycodone) are hit or miss for neuropathic pain.
As with any medical question, please talk to your doctor. Besides you, they know your medical condition best and should be able to help you out. Good luck.

A doctor and patient should try different combinations that work best for her. Antidepressants work for some. Personally, I use Neurontin which is usually used for seizure disorders. In addition, I use Ellavil (an older antidepressant). Neuropathy has different underlying causes. Most common is diabetes mellitus (aka sugar diabetes).Good luck and don't give up.There is no cure but there is help. Multivitamins help all of us because our diets tend to be deficient.
