Andro or Spectricide is very effective. But you must pour the stuff on the ant hill. Ants take the "food " to the queen. I found the ants will move from one spot to another. Constant fight.
Now when you say overrun that sounds like you need a
professional exterminator. He'll take care of the problem. I had to do that only once. Otherwise, just regularly keeping up with the mound(only one or two)

Be careful, be very careful. Some people will tell you to use gasoline. This is very dangerous. You can even be seriously injured or get someone else injured, like your children if you have any or even other family members. I used just a yard bug granules and put them on with a spreader. That did not kill the ant, but they moved to my neighbors yards.
