The clouds are reddish because the sun's rays has to go through more of the atmosphere. Like if you watch the sun or the moon raise or set you will see that there are reddish Orange. Now the clouds that you see are red that is just those light rays (from the sun) bouncing of them. Now about the color it all depends on how the cloud forms and what kind of environment that is up there where the cloud is. Another factor is how much condensed water vapor is in the cloud. The more condensed the darker which is why rain clouds are that dark gray to black color.

I agree with the previous answers to some extent. It is indeed true that when clouds are gray, you are more than likely to witness a shower. However, it is not because the clouds themselves are filled up to the brim with water and are ready to explode. The formation of rain drops requires condensation nuclei... usually a dust particle. When sufficient amounts of condensation nuclei collect, the clouds get their color (and rain). So, the presence of water is not the cause of the color. It is actually the presence of the color (the condensation nuclei) that condenses the water leading to rain. Of course, specific temperature requirements must also be met in order for the vapour to condense, but that's a different topic.

Clouds go from white to grey depending on how nuch moisture they are holding. White being the least, and grey being the darkest.

Clouds being red at sunset is a whole diffrent phenominon. The cloud refracts the red light from the sun as it sets.

if a cloud is white it means it has no rain in it. if a cloud is grey then it means that it has rain and its about to create a storm. if a cloud is pink or reddish then that means the suns waves and heat it behind the cloud.
