there are times when you do feel like it sucks to be poor...or less fortunate, when you want to get your hair done every week but can't afford it, so you do the best you can, when you just want to enjoy life at carowinds with the kids but you just can't afford it..when you just want to enjoy life, the finer things...when your friends want you to go out but you don't even have
money for the food, or for going to the club...when it's about 2 to 3 years before you see your next new outfit..when your grandma calls and says, hey i picked this up from the yard sale...when she says come look through this bag and see what you want...it does suck...but through it all we thank God for what we do have because we could be smelling out on the street with no shelter or computer, or hand-me-downs...we could be without...and i guess we'd rather have..it's hard when what you have is not enough..when you can't enjoy the fruits of your labor..i can relate.

By standards of the American People I too am poor, but I realize that there are many people much poorer then I am. I feel I'm rich, since I have a roof over my head, food, kids who love me, friends to talk with, and of course enough money for the computer and internet. I'm happy with my life. You sound like you are too.

Our souls are poor, our spirits our poorer. We truly are the greatest country to live in and we have yet to appreciate all that we have access to as a free country. We have accepted the fact that money is the only measure for poor or not poor. I would take a rich soul over a phat bank account anyday.

I grew up in a poor family and there where times that we didn't know if we were going to have a roof over our heads. But in a way its helped me. I have a job and know how to spend my money so that I have enough left over for just me if needed. I'm happy to have grown up poor.

Not really. At first glance, the poor people seem like they have nothing. But in the absence of money they have found a way to live life beyond the need of material possesions.

Learn to appreciate what you have and you will prosper. There are people in other countries living with nothing. A poor american is rich by the standards of other countries.

Well, if you are an American living below the poverty line, which accounts for too many people, then I don't think you are spoiled -- that is, if your total income doesn't allow for you to meet otherwise ordinary needs (i.e., food, housing, etc.) . I agree with you that many people, though not necessarily limited to those living in the U.S., probably consider themselves to be lacking in terms of income when they don't know what it actually feels like to live in poverty.

If you want to see something interesting go to globalrichlist.com. Enter your yearly salary and it will tell you what number richest person you are in the world. I think you will be surprised at how wealthy you really are. Of course true wealth is measured in much more then dollars and sense. Even though I live from paycheck to paycheck, I consider myself the wealthiest man alive. I just measure my wealth differently then most.

You're impoverished, but then so are most people in the world.
Sounds like you're getting by OK, though.
And remember, poverty is no reason for shame, it's more of a state of mind than actual want.

You aren't poor if you have a roof over your head, and know where your next meal is coming from.
