They are almost opposites.
When someone is confident they don't need to be vain, becasue they have inner confidence in themselves.
Vanity is superficial and a cover-up for low self-esteem. Someone who is vain, looks in the mirror a lot, cares about what other people think and thus, is not self confident.
So, which are you?

My hubby does the same to me. I think there is a fine line between the two. I say, if you've got "it"...flaunt "it". There are so many who don't have it, so they choose to accuse people with confidence, and call it "vanity". 1.Confidence= I've got what it takes.
2. Vanity= Being proud of having it.
I call it being "blessed"....

Confidence is the exact opposite of vanity.
A vain person needs to be constantly reassured they are superior in some way because they feel inferior.

Vain is basically just being conceited and constantly proud of your appearance or accomplishments. Confidence is being
self-assured. I think confidence is just in a more humble way then being vain.

I think the difference would be whether or not you voiced your opinion about your confidence. I would think anyone who incessantly talks about how pretty or smart or beautiful or what ever they feel they are, may be vain about those particular traits. If you are confident there is no need to talk about it.

I think a confident person believes in him/herself and can exude that without degrading or belittling others. Confident people can have positive interaction with other confident people. Vain people exude so much confidence that they believe they are better than others and, knowingly or unknowingly, offend others through words or actions.

the difference is that when your being too confident thats vanity- when your rubbing it in and gloating. If your confident then you have self pride which iss good and bad after it turnes to vanity.

vain is caring only about your looks to the point of nothing else, confidence is knowing you are a great person and that you look good and not needing anyone else to validate it for you constantly.
