My dad lost about 10-15 pounds in the first two weeks. It's different for everyone but usually somewhere in the range you mentioned. Good luck!

I lost 25 pounds in the first month of South Beach, which is kind of an Atkins knock off. Be careful with Atkins. You need at least 25 grams of glycogen a day to fuel your brain. The brain needs some sugar. Put down the Atkins book (it's too darn restrictive anyway) and try South Beach. You'll like it much better.

BEEN ON THAT DIET FOR A LONG TIME. WHEN YOU FIRST START, YOU MUST EAT "NO CARBS" AT ALL. 14 DAYS! LOST 22 LB. IN THE BEGINNING. IT WILL GO DOWN AFTER THAT. MAYBE A COUPLE POUNDS A WEEK. BUT YOU GOT TO STAY WITH IT. ONCE YOU GO BACK TO OVER 30-40 CARBS A DAY, YOU WILL START GAINING YOUR WEIGHT BACK JUST AS FAST AS IT CAME OFF. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT! THAN YOU HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN.

loose that much on just about any diet... takes months to loose real weight... have seen extremely overweight people loose about 60lbs in 6months on it.
