They did not suffer through slavery but that payment from the family who most likely doesnt think of black people as slaves anymore. It was a diffrent generation of family that went though it but they want payment for something they didnt go through. Ridiculous!

reparations are ridiculous, blacks can be successul, smart, and talented and can get by without reparations, people need to stop focusing on the past and think about the future, I'm mainly scottish, english, irish and german but I'm part native american, should I get reparations because my ancestors were kicked off their land. no, that's ridiculous, I didn't live back when the first europeans came to america so why the hell should I get anything. the answer is I shouldn't, I can do just fine by myself.

Reparations sounds like a good idea if 1) we could figure out all genealogy back to slavery; 2) we could figure out what form reparations would take (40 acres and a mule?); and 3) we could quantify the effect of slavery.

Even if all that were possible, which it is not, would that really solve the problem that exist today. No, way. Apologies and reparations won't improve race relations or the quality of life for some blacks. It would just be more of a symbol. A symbol that government needs to pay for the inhuman treatment of blacks all those years ago. Yes blacks have suffered greatly since the ending of slavery, and while things today aren't ideal, it's better that it was 30 years ago. Personally, I believe that we've got to let it go, move forward, and work to create a better life for today and tomorrow.

OK, are you black? NO!! Therefore you do NOT have any right to dictate justice for what your ancestors did!! I'm not saying I want reparations or not, that's not the point. Whether I do or not does not give you or any non-black person the right to say what should be done about the injustice that has been done to blacks in this country. It wasn't just slavery you dumb a**! And besides blacks built this country if we were not here as your source of cheap labor this country would not be as it is today. Take a history class and get an education!!

What the hell do you mean they didn't suffer. They are still suffering, maybe not through slavery but racism is still strong as ever. Believe me I know. I'm a young white female dating a black male and he goes through a lot. Getting pulled over along the road he gets a hard time from the police and God forbid i was in the car with him. We can't really go back to where i grew up and just hang out becase of the fear of all the redneck mf and the KKK. And to get back to your question, there are Japanese that got payment from the government from WWII. Native Americans got payment. The list goes on so why shouldn't the African Americans??

Considering this county was built by the sweat, blood and hard work of slaves... considering that as a whole, the black culture has suffered more so than any other culture b/c of these travesties...considering the fact that blacks were in-slaved for generations and jewish people received reparations for maybe 6 years of suffering...I think they should! It funny how Americans will dump money into a war, but not it's own people.

First of all, that statement is VERY GENERAL!!! Not all black people want reparations. That is like saying why are white people rednecks. Not all of them are either.
I am black and I don't want reparations. My ancestors suffered through slavery but it made them very strong. And they taught every generation after them to be strong. To me, reparations is like a handout and I prefer to earn my own.
I believe GOD allows things to happen for a reason so I just thank HIM for those blacks that made it through and we have opportunities now that we didn't have then.

I am black and I could care less about reparation. money would not erase anything that my ancesters went through. and anyway what good would the money do you if you were truly suffering. the people who do want the money are just exploiting their long lost family members for monetary gain. if you were truly hurt you wouldn't want the money. taking is just like making you a slave.

Hey, I'm in Canada and we're still paying for what we did to the Natives - and that was more than 200 years ago! So uh, yeah, I think stealing people from their homeland to service whites deserves a penalty of some sort. It was an injustice to Humanity, and somebody's gotta pay.

If anyone should get reparations its the American Indians. We give them some stuff but our culture has really hurt them. Many are drunks and way overweight. They had much better diets and lifestyles before we came and ****** them out of their land.

Yup, but everyone wants something for nothing.owever, there are people still alive who were treated badly because of segregation who do deserve something. Mostly, though its notthese people who are screaming about reparation, but their greedy, lazy grandchildren, and they don't getthat they aren't going to get anything from the greedy, lazy grandchildren of the people who harmed their grandparents.
