Argentina lost because in the mental, tactical staredown between Klinsmann and Pekerman, the Argentine coach blinked. He obviously was scared of Germany's offense, so he changed the lineup. He took Cambiasso and Aymar out, and put Rodríguez and Tevez in from the start. While Tevez and Messi are individually better players, the Crespo-Aymar combination worked better as a team, which was the concept Pekerman was trying to instill against the wishes of the rest of Argentine soccer fans. Pekerman's team concept, however, won over converts in the first round and I had hoped he'd keep the line-up philosophy that got them that far.
Pekerman, however, played it "safe" in this game, stacking the lineup in a defensive mode. You could really tell it after they scored. Argentina abandoned their attack, which had kept Germany on its heels, and retreated to their side of the field, betting their defense could hold off Germany's offense for 30 minutes. Germany took control of the ball and started firing shots until one finally got in. In the last ten minutes of the game, you could see Argentine players wanted to get back into an attacking rhythm, but Tevez was basically alone. When the defense and midfield got the ball, they fed it up to the strikers, as usual, but Tevez by himself on tired legs could do nothing. Incidentally, who is Cruz and what was he doing in the game? Had the last sub been Messi for Crespo, that might have spurred a tired Tevez to venture even more up the German throat, perhaps even score a 2nd goal. But Pekerman choked, "played it safe" and lost.

They didn't lose. There were lost. If that f'ken referee had given that penalty then we would have won.
It was the worst decision made by an Argentinian coach ever. He should have played Messi and he should not sub Crespo and requelme. That f'ker messed up our attack. Which is why we could not score. I knew if the game goes to tiebreaker, Argentina will lose. They are never good at that.
I don't blame the referee for the defeat. I blame the coach. He made the win easier for German. Otherwise we would have slaughtered them.

basically because the subs should have been messi and saviola the fastest players that were fresh would have torn through the tired German defence .Also if the keeper wouldn't have been injured aimar would have come on again oh well lucky Germany next time wont be a home game.P's the best players in the world are from Argentina and Brazil its fact don't look at score boards look at players.

1. Germany hurt our goalie.
2. Pekerman made a couple of bad mistakes (I still think he shouldn't quit, though. He'd have to be pretty thick to repeat them.)
3. The winning combos of attacking midfielders and strikers were missing. Crespo was alone up front while Tevez played the unofficial 5th midfielder.
4. Switching Gonzalez for Cambiasso didn't work.
5. Leo Franco is apparently not very good with PKs, at least not at World Cup level.
6. The REF.

Because the referee sided with Germany because they are paid by the German government (To be the referee). Did you see when the Argentina guy was slide tackled from behind inside the goal area? The Argentinians should have gotten a penalty but instead gave them a yellow card.

argentina lost to germany because the ref was ridiculous unfair. also, their best goalie was injured and peckerman, the coach, had to switch him with a back-up goalie. also, peckerman made the decision to take out riquelme and crespo, 2 of the best players on the national team. and instead of putting in messi, he put in some random guy named cruz. basically, peckerman thought it would be a good idea to take out good players for no reason, which cost argentina the win.

Please... we all know the game could always go either way. Considering all the variables, Argentina could have won but they didn't, just like Brazil with France (when everybody knew that Brazil could take on any team), or Trinidad and Tobago's draw with Sweden (when they predicted Sweden an easy win). After all, there's only one ball with 22 men dying to get a kick off it, and to make it worse, it's round.
