We were wondering if there was a way you can teach a 7 month old how to swim without classes. They don't have classes where I live the closest place is 60 miles away.

When my boys were born we lived in Phoenix and that means spending lots of time in the pool to keep cool. They were both able to float by the age of 6 weeks and loved it. Just spend time in the water with them the more they accustomed they become to the water the better they will do. Don't rush him and he will do great. Floating on back first then kickers and splashers, then learning to blowing bubbles, then on to swimming. Have fun

I don't think so. I realize that babys learn how to breath out under water, and kind of paddle, but I wouldn't call it swimming. Kids need lots of supervision. Just relax, and keep a constant eye on them. If there is anything, call your local red cross. They will know. They teach the best lessons.

The majority of children under the age of one have the ability to be self boyant in the water because of being in the womb for 9 months. They are supposed to be able to breathe under water until they reach 1 year old.

At the age of seven months it would be hard to actually teach them to swim but if you regularly take them swimming and get them used to being in thewater and show them what to do like anything else over time they should be able to copy you and swim.

Good luck and make it fun for the baby.

I have seen some books and videos that show how to teach a baby to swim you could look into that or you could ask your pediatrician for advice.
