I have one more year left of graduate school and I teach piano on the side for my income. I really love teaching, and the fact that I get to set my own hours, days, pay, etc. But the fact that I'm not interfacing with others (which I really enjoy), and the ability to travel within an office environment lures me to finish up school and get a job within the government or something. I feel like I should be concentrating my efforts centrally toward a single career path. How do I pick office vs. teaching or both? Any suggestions on what I should do?

I'm going to grad school for an MPP - very unrelated to teaching.

You're getting a Masters in Public Policy and you use expressions like "interfacing with others"? Is your Masters from the University of Phoenix or something?

If you're interested in office positions that include education, look into curriculum design for the Ministry of Education, textbook publishing, educational administration, or educational counselling. Build up some more dynamic volunteer experience in the field of education. Once you've finished your Masters, look into jobs at community colleges for positions like Information Officer or Activities Co-ordinator. From here, you can work your way up.

I'm just going to give you a really vague answer. First I'm 22 so just about everyone I know Is going through or finishing Uni soon. And the amount of times all my friends deferred is laughable lol. So nothing is permanent. Start thinking big. Do you want to work behind a desk, or something more active and physical? Do you want to customer service (Which is doing a million people's bidding each day) Or something a little more you and your boss(s) Maybe even think about whether you want to think about your lifestyle in general? Like if you get a high income job chances are you'll be doing no break 50+hr weeks. Where if you got a lower income job you could relax more, yeah earn less money but enjoy life more, socialize and travel. Do you want to go through life in First Class or are you happy with Coach? :) I hope this helps, I guess what I'm trying to say is the job does make your lifestyle, so maybe think about what lifestyle you want if you aren't too passionate about any one thing. Best of luck

I do not know what MPP is, Master of Public Perception?

Anyway, you sound like a good fit for a community college. They have many different schedules, with adult classes in the evenings and such. They do teaching and much more.
(You do need a masters to teach at this level.)

Good luck

Do something that you like to do. Find your niche. I feel bad for people who go into something they don't like and they end up hating their job and the feel regret and then they start to take it out on other. You have to do what you feel is right for you.
