A virus is a destructive program that intentionally tries to damage your file system.

A trojan is like a virus although it is hidden within another program, like the famous "trojan horse"..

A computer worm is a self-replicating computer program similar to a computer virus. A virus attaches itself to, and becomes part of, another executable program; however, a worm is self-contained and does not need to be part of another program to propagate itself.

There are differences but knowing the differences does not help get rid of them. A virus is a bit of software that replicates itself, much like a real virus. A trojan is named for the trojan horse (read your mythology) and is malware hiding within something else. A worm is software that borrows into your system. What they do all depends on how they are written.
