AT&T spends a fortune on name changes ie: Pacific Bell to Cingular to SBC to AT&T. While the service they provide is beyond substandard.
Their ads say they have the fewest dropped calls (but the won' t tell you what survey company they used, only the term "a well known company").

Today, after close to two hours of waiting and redialing (after my calls were dropped) I finally threw them out.

My son in law works for Pac Bell aka Cingular aka SBC aka AT and T and has been on the same payroll for twenty years. These aren't buyouts or take overs. Merely, corporate musical chairs.

their customer service leaves much to be desired as well. I would change my plan to have more minutes and left the store with the understanding I had the new plan now. The contract read at the start of the next billing cycle, $800 later, I threw them out too. I had tons of dropped calls and couldn't call some numbers at all. I hated them and haven't found anyone that is way better yet. I am going to watch this question for some ideas on who to use. I use a local i-wireless now and have better service than Cingular. At least I know the phone doesn't work in some places, they never lied about it.

Their first name was BellSouth Mobility then they invented that crazy Cingular name then they "merge" with AT&T Wireless then when back to Cingular. But the truth is, the company HAS NOT change ownership, the so-called "New" owners of AT&T-SBC is just the abbrebiation of their old Southern Bell Communications baby bell A.K.A. BellSouth Corp.

Ma'bell is still owned by one of her Baby Bells. With the same old tricks and treat. nothing has really change.

The answer to all of these questions is simple Access lines. SBC has already acquired 30 million known access lines in the buyout of PacBell's public switched network and countless more due to the unprecedented growth in the demand for second lines in California. Access lines mean market share. And increased market power better positions SBC for the long-distance market. SBC has been the most active Regional Bell, both in regulatory filings and litigation, seeking entry into long-distance. In fact, SBC and Pacific Bell recently filed a 271 application for long-distance despite the total lack of competition in the local residential service market in California. Entry into long-distance is crucial if the Pacific Bell and SBC merger is going to achieve its intended results. At its core, that merger was supposed to give Pacific Bell, with SBC at its helm, access to lucrative long-distance traffic, and international and Internet calls which originate from each complementary territory. Despite the lack of contiguous geography between SBC and Pacific, their union made perfect sense from the nature of their calling patterns.

Anything AT&T gets their hands on anything, they turn it into crap. SBC/DSL was great until recently, now they've turned their attention to Cingular. I sent my brother a birthday e-mail, and it took 5 hours. Forget about calling him. Everyone I call on Cingular has to call me back on my home phone. So far, that's still working.
