will HP Vivera ink solve the smudge problem for our invitations?

No, it will still smudge and run if wet. You might try a laser printer.

If the printer calls for vivera ink then yes it will solve the problem as the ink drives very quickly. If the printer does not use vivera then, short of reloading a cartridge, how do you plan on using it?

Usually the ink isn't the issue. Make sure you are using a paper that is designed for ink jets. Certain paper finishes will retard or prevent ink from drying.
