I think the answer the question is trying to get at is B, since blood cells are mainly responsible for fighting bacteria. But, of course, cells cannot function without proteins and the cellular mechanism by which blood cells fight off bacterial infections definitely involves proteins! Proteins are pretty much involved in all aspects of life.
