A few months back, the final page of Vogue magazine (which usually features some "in" product) featured a pair of ladies' high-heeled shoes that sell for over $9,000 a pair. And no, they were not made of unicorn hide or encrusted with diamonds, nor had they once belonged to Marie Antoinette. It was just plain old leather on a shoe not significantly different from any other pair of platform heels. I was astounded, especially since that one pair of shoes cost more than what I earn in half a year.
How does the fashion industry get away with selling such over-priced goods? What kind of person would buy something for such a ridiculously exaggerated price? I personally would have a very hard time spending even $90 on a pair of shoes, even if I were wealthy, not to mention $900 or, God forbid, $9,000. What's the most you've ever spent on a pair of shoes?

really? $9,000? are you sure? there are starving people in this world. You could hit the local payless shoe store buy 10 pair of shoes and then donate the money to hurricane Katrina victims.

I would never spend that much money on shoes. For one, that's too expensive. For two, I'm not a slave for fashion. And for three, I hate high heels.
Fashion Industries can get away with selling things for such high prices because of inflation and celebrities. Once a designer makes a shoe everyone wants it and wants to buy it because the designer is so fancied among the stars and wealthy people. The fashion industry has always been wealthy anyways, so that also contributes.
The most I've ever spent on shoes was probably $60. They were originally $80 dollar Nike shoes.

It has a lot to do with the brand name, but more than that, if they make the price 9000, its a way of saying, you know what, we spent a lot money making this shoe and we believe that this shoe is worth 5000 + 4000 to make it even more exclusive.
If someone else sells a shoe at a higher price in the next Vogue then everyone might think its better and therefore that brand is better

If you have the money to spend then yeah. Why do people drive $150,000 cars when a $10,000 car can get you to the same place and is not a gas guzzler? Why have a $75,000,000 house when you could live in a $800 apartment? Hey, it is your money. Enjoy it.

this stuff is for the fility rich, just because they can. The poor folk like us get knock off's, and cheaper made stuff......this is a capitalistic society, you can set any price for any thing you want...the trick is in getting someone else to value it at that price, and buy it.
i have spend $80.00 on a pair of shoes, because they went perfectly with the outfit i wanted to wear... (i still have them too)

When you produce something, you can agree to exchange it for whatever you wish, perhaps to you the cookie you made is worth 1 million dollars, if someone agrees to pay it that is their prerogative, trade can only occur between voluntarily consenting individuals. no one has any business in forcing another to sell their product for a price unacceptable to them, that is called theft and coercion.
