L'Anse aux Meadows is the only authenticated Viking site in North America. It was established 1000 years ago by the explorer Leif Eiriksson during his adventures in eastern North America - 500 years before Columbus' exploits in the "New World". The site was rediscovered by Helge Ingstad and his wife Anne Stine in 1960. L'Anse aux Meadows is now a National Historic Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the first cultural site in the world to receive this designation - a symbol of its outstanding cultural and historical value.

Joe Viking, you know the one with the horny helmet.
But, it was probably the first Eskimo that crossed the Bearing Sea Land Bridge. He was exploring American soil around the time the Druids were trying to figure out how to mount huge stone blocks on top of each other.

I beleive it was the vikings around the 11th century, although they may have landed further north, they were however the first explorers (in recorded history)to set foot on north american soil.

It was either someone Chinese on the West Coast, or the Vikings; I know the Vikings were here as long as 1000 years ago.
