Under Shari'a (Islamic) law, in force in the UAE, a Muslim woman is not allowed to marry a non-Muslim man unless he converts to Islam. Such marriage under Shari'a in the UAE is considered null and void, and the parties may be subject to punishment such as imprisonment or flogging for fornication.
Elie Dib Ghaleb, a 30 year-old Christian Lebanese national has been sentenced to 39 lashes and one years' imprisonment reportedly solely for having married Mona, a Muslim woman from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). His ordeal began on 5 December 1995 when police went to the Intercontinental Hotel in al-'Ain in Abu Dhabi, where he worked as a restaurant manager, took him to his residence and searched for his marriage certificate. When they found it they arrested him. He was detained until 29 October 1996 when a Shari'a court in al-'Ain tried and sentenced him allegedly solely because of his marriage, as a Christian, to Mona.

It is important but the longer bush runs this country the quicker the first amendment becomes null. Due to the fact that christian fundamentalists are trying to force the rest of the nation to think like them. And if they don't, too bad because their lobbyists have had it made in to law. like their Muslim counter parts christian fundamentalists are stripping this nation or its bases, to instate religious rule for all. pretty much imposing their values on every one else, like in these Muslim countries where Islamic law is governmental law also. The first amendment was created to stop such things from happening here in America, so the 1st amednment is the most important peice of legistation in american history.

I think it is very sad. It took our country many years to accept marriages from different races and the society looked down on them but nothing happened though any religious law.
We do have groups that can marry up to six or more women and have children but our law enforcement is trying to put a stop to paligamy.
I am not aware of any UAE first amendment so doesn't that question make any sense? You are talking about the United Arab Emirates. In the United States we fight for our First Amendments.

I believe freedom of religion is extremely important and that government should not have any say in how we worship.
That does not mean that they have the authority to ban religion from schools or a courthouse. But it means that they cannot dictate what God we pray to or church we go to.
As for freedom of the press, I believe in this too as long as there are no laws broken. I do not believe in freedom of the press when it compromises our National Security or aids and comforts our enemy.
We are very fortunate to live in a free country where we are able to express ourselves and worship God without fear of reprimand, torture or internment. Our first amendment rights are very important.

Sometimes the freedom of speech for some women is too much! But is their choice! And if they don't succeed just shouting they use a further power in a state:the press!
And guess where is the role of religion in all this situation?
Well, when also the option with the press fails, they pray that at least to be believed crazy by the others!

Our constitutional amendments were set up to protect the individual rights of every American citizen. Of these rights, our greatest freedoms are the right to believe or not believe in God and to go to any church of our choice. It is the right to speak up or out against our Government when we don't believe our leaders are acting in our best interest.
Unlike our foreign neighbors, we can read different view points expressed by the media or newspapers, by reporters who don't fear being executed or jailed.

Our first amendment rights are the most important rights we have. If we lose our freedom or speech, freedom of press and freedom to practice religion , will basically live in a totalitarian state.
These are the same freedoms that our forefathers and military have died protectiving.,With lose freedoms lost, they have died in vain and so has our society.
