Is a time machine possible, and if so, what would happen if someone went back in time to change it, and changed it enough to prevent them from ever making a time machine?? Please explain answers thoroughly.

First, if you travel with the lightspeed you won't go back in the past, your subjective time just will pass slower than the other's time. It's like they will run faster than you on a race : you will see them moving forward, but the time will flow toward the plus-time for both of you ( toward the future , not toward the minus-time / the past).

You cannot do that by yourself, though, because you cannot create movement up to a different axis without an external impulse. One cannot change his moving direction if he is not hit by an external impulse, or if he hasn't such strange *engine that to push him at 90 degrees : THAT engine is supposed to be the time machine itself.

Please read "The end of Eternity" by Isaac Asimov, a great novel that will show you some beautiful insight and consequences of such possibility.

It will help you also to estimate the "less necessary action" requested in order to create the "biggest desired result" in your life, too. That IS something, even in our limited life, even without having such time machine .... It's like multiplying *millionfold our chances in life, for just achieving WHATEVER we wish !!

I dont know if what I say you sounds tricky, but I am graduated in nuclear physics and have a personal theory that says that if someone from the "over-speedlight" world will *extract us from our "under-speedlight" world, then we will be able to be as the gods from some point of view.

Let me explain myself : imagine a pool game where 2 balls are hit by 2 players in the same time and they come closer and closer and hit together. If the balls were moving exactly each one toward the other, chances are that at the same speed and weight of the balls, they will stop after they hit toghether, right ?

It's the same when 2 over-speedlight objects hit together in the same way : they become statical, so that they are suddenly visible and *under-speedlight-ed , like they appear from nowhere, as in a mirracle. Instead of being stealth ( as the radio waves ) they become visible, they become OBJECTS ( from WAVES ). Of course, because each *entity travelling with speed equal or higher than the light itself IS then a WAVE ( being undistinguishable without appropriate means of detection ).

We cannot "see" or "heard" a radio wave ( of our favourite radio station ) without a radio receiver, isnt it ? even if that radio wave carries with it the last song of Shakira through our room, through the walls, through our body, eyes, ears, bones and so further toward our neighbors :) ....

Now if we imagine those 2 pool balls runing not on the green cloth of the biliard table but on the air ( because they will keep moving horizontaly at a very high speed even if they are in the air ), when they will hit each other, they will stop, *freeze in the air then fall on the floor. Definitely that will happen each time and if they were those over-lightspeed objects (aka waves) , they will "materialize" suddenly in our world ( like in Star Trek ) .... so that you just could know from now that this IS possible to be done with some methods / devices.

Whatever, if we move further, we will understand also that if a ball which is standing will be hit by another one with a very high speed, the first ball will "run away" from its place since the "hitter" will stop ( if you hit with the white ball the red one on the biliard, the white will stop and the red will move, right ? ) THAT IS THE WAY IN WHICH WE COULD BE *EXTRACTED from the "under-speedlight world" and will become invisible for the others.

Furthermore, if the "white ball" has a very high speed+weight, it will not "freeze" on the pool table, but it will "kidnap" with it the red ball and run away with it :) so that both will be invisible and running from there ...

My point is : we cannot achieve without external help the over-lightspeed. We need the help of the "over-lighters", because in our physical universe we need almost infinite energy in order to achieve even the lightspeed. E=mc^2 ( that is valid for the light which is the trespasser between those 2 worlds ) but for the usual things energy = weight x ( speed )^2 which means exactly that if we want double speed we need four times more energy ( 2^2 = 4 ) and so on ( triple speed needs nine time more energy 3^2 = 3x3 = 9 ... )

Imagine that for 1000 times more speed we need 1 million times more energy ( 1000^2 = 1000x1000 ), so that this is very tricky to obtain 300,000 km/sec which is the lightspeed

If a fast car runs with 300 KM/hour, it needs 1 million more energy to run with 300,000 KM/hour, but lightspeed is 300,000 KM per second, not per hour !!!! and such fast car should carry with itself that powersource, which will need to accelerate itself too, not only the car !!

Back to the simpler things, we would need to hammer very rough with energy a thing in order to accelerate it up to the speed of light ( Asimov tells in his novel that they used to such the energy of the Sun itself in order to build the time machine stations ... )

Yet, we would need some handy help from our over-speedy brothers in order to succeed with such machine. If not, we have not any other alternative than to use psychic powers ( IF any such is available ) in order to attract such energy , because the friends from over-world don't seem to be wishing to "slow" themselves, to become visible all the time for us, to become permanent "under-world" citizens as we are ... they just accelerate again they flying sauces, trespass the light speed and disappear from our sight and become again undistinguishable for ever.

You know, today's wars are not for "surface area" conquers ( nobody is interested just to deploy his citizens in a foreign country from the helicopters, isnt it ? - please read "The third wave" of Alvin Toffler and you will understand better the socio-history ), because a foreign country is not a guarantee for a better life-style but just a hostile environment and bio-sphere.

The over-speed citizens just cannot bring civilization in such under-morral world as we are now ( they cannot bring us some "Pax Romana" ), so they just ignore us, or study and keep watching our backward world ...

Now, for answering to your question, the common opinion is that any line of probability ( as a rope / chain that link the causality-linked events between ) has not the shape of the sign of "6" that closes in itself, but as the sign of infinity that just meet and "cut" the other rope of causality ( even if is deeply related with that other line ).

We as eternal self-consciousnesses ( that's how we are used to believe about ourselves as persons and humanity ) are just whitnesses to this sign of the infinity ( like when you enter and swim inside of a river you often *feel in the water both the spring and the outfall of it, too - by just entering in the time/ in the "river" from the birthday doesn't seems that you cannot be mentaly awake to the past itself before your birthday - to the minus-time , so that by just being birth you just achieved immortality and endless self-consciousnesses in both senses ( toward minus-time and plus-time until the infinity ) of course if you ARE able to "feel" this infinity through your spirit and conscience.

Definitely, exploring all possibilities must still keep you though in your comfortable state of mind, because the truth is the single one that keeps you comfortable with your own self even if your mind acknowledges strange/ugly/awful realities/facts/or-whatever-else, and answering to such question is another proof of how wonderful is the human mind that can imagine and then bring to life things that are not even posible to be real in the real life, but inside of our mind only ...

Imagine now something wonderful : as in Star Wars the cities in the clouds ( have you seen the movie? ) I'm glad to say you something nice - that those are very real and easy to be built - how ? very simple, it's like the wood floats on the water, the same way can be built a material that floats on the air, being lighter than it ( I wont disclose you how is produced this material, just help you to guess that this is a foam as is the polyester foam used in constructions - that is also floating on the water... )

Yep, it's wonderful to imagine and to travel with our mind everywhere in the infinity - JUST BECAUSE THE INFINITY'S NATURE ITSELF IS NOT BENT BY THE CAUSALITY ITSELF !!

We maybe just descent from the infinity into the reality and take note of that through our conscience, but our nature keeps knowing that infinity inside us.

Or maybe we are just statical ( because we're eternal) and just the time run and flows around us, who knows ???

Possibly we are already in a time machine - the Earth - that is our vehicle that moves toward the future, even if just very very slowly ?

If a time machine were possible. I think they should mass market it with the ability to only go back like one minute. That would prevent a lot of screw ups, foot in the mouth moments, farts in front of the new girlfriend's parents. It would be cool to have like a watch or something and when you crapped your pants at dinner you could just twist the reverse dial and excuse yourself one minute before it happened.

Theoretically, if you're in a machine, and that machine travels faster than the speed of light, then you'll go back in time. If the past was altered in such a way that a time machine wouldn't have been invented, this person would return to his life in the alternate future he had created.

Not a possibility. There could never be a time machine even if someone uses this metaphorical time machine to keep one from being made.

depend on which form of physics you like to believe in some say if you go fast enough you can you need inf-anent energy and speed or time warps are also believed to be true. but i personal believe this to be imposable to do if you went back in time just talking to someone would change the future you would be keeping them from what they would have made them late for there destiny if you changed it to much you could prevent your self from going back in time because the future would no longer excites so you would never have been.

No it is unfortunately not possible, though if you traveled faster than light itself you could "turn around" and watch your approach, and if you went far enough you could see past events, but they have already occurred and you are simply perceiving the reflected light of an event which already has occurred, not to mention time is still passing as you outrun the light. Its a neat concept but an entirely fictional one.

I have got one! Every time I use my computer my wife says it's time you switched that machine off!

Time machines are possible. Einstines theory of relativity says so.

As for the rest of the question I think that is more something for science fiction or philosophy majors.

There are many points of view on time. I believe time is a template, and everything is occurring simultaneously, but we have chosen our reality. We time travel in sleep and through astral projection. Time is really an illusion!

NO...there's really nothing to explain-the past is dead & gone and can't be relived(literally)!!!
The future doesn't exsist till it's present!!!

The closest thing to a time machine(as it relates to actually doing what it's purpose is for)would be hallucinogens!!!

omg this is so complicated. but yeah it is possible. except they have 2 invent something faster than the speed of light..imagine a pizza ...take on peice off and try to make a circle again with it..u have to leap..sort of. i saw a documentary. and i dunno about the going back n trying to prevent it..

theoretically it is possible.. but will not happen in our lifetimes or even our kids kids lifetimes.. but who knows. there are some crazy folks out there that claim to be time travelers lol
