DO NOT GIVE ANYTHING TO A BABY WITHOUT ASKING A DOCTOR, NURSE, OR PHARMACIST!!!!!!!!!
Just because something doesn't technically KILL a baby doesn't make it safe or healthy! PLEASE don't be stupid with a bay's life!
If a baby is constipated, call its pediatrician, or if you don't have one, call the local health department or a pharmacy to ask a question! Don't do home remedies and stuff that is not for that specific purpose. Infants are not just small adults; they have completely different medical needs, and some things that are safe for adults are NOT SAFE AT ALL for babies!
Don't use anything other than a prescription or over-the-counter medication that is speciafically labelled safe for babies, and then follow dosage instructions CAREFULLY!
If your baby dies because you gave it some home remedy that was not under doctor's orders, you will go to jail for child endangerment and manslaughter, plus your baby will be dead! Don't be dumb!
Most problems with babies work themselves out on their own. If your baby is fussy and seems to have a stomach ache, give him mylacon, which is availabe at any pharmacy.

brad_g is correct and kayro syrup also works. i gave it to both of my infant sons for constipation. you should check with your doctor first. my older son 5 is having trouble with the idea that because he is already potty trained that he can't have the prizes that his little brother2 1/2 is getting for using the potty. so he stopped going and got constipated. i gave him kayro syrup last night and by this morning he was back to normal.

You should do what your doctor says. This is my doctor's instructions (see below) I haven't tried the syrup, but I have used prune juice before. It worked.
Buy dark Karo syrup in any supermarket
Stir 1 tablespoon of Karo syrup into 2 ounces of water, breastmilk, or formula; give to the baby daily or every other day as needed.
Mix prune juice with an equal amount of water; start with 2 ounces a day and increase gradually as needed (rapid increases may cause excessive gas).
AVOID rice cereal (use barley or oatmeal cereal instead), bananas, potatoes/sweet potatoes.
ENCOURAGE prunes, peaches, pears, squash, green beans, peas, Cheerios.

Definetly don't give your kid syrup it has alot of sugar in it which is not good for babys stomach. Try a little prune juice, like two ounces. That alwasys seems to do the trick for my daughter. It doesn't taste that great so mix it with some juice (like apple) or with formula. Make sure you don't give the baby anymore then two ounces cause then you'll have the opposite problem of constipation.

Do NOT give you infant ANYTHING but colace for constipation. Colace is a mild stool softener suitable for newborns even-ask your pharmacist and always confirm with your pharmacist, nurse or Doctor before you follow any advise given online. Pharmacists will give you this information on the phone. If you don't have access to a Pharmacy give a little pear juice or baby food prunes or prune juice diluted.

Caro syrup is basically sugar so I don't think it's a good idea to feed that to your baby.
How old is he? Is he eating solid food?
If so, prunes. If he's still on the bottle but can drink juice, prune juice. It sounds pretty gross but babies actually like it b/c it's sweet and, trust me, it is the BEST for constipation in babies. Just be prepared to change three or four poopy diapers in a row!!! haha
The best thing about it is that it's all natural so there's no harm!
You give him/her the amount you would give in a juice bottle (2oz for smaller babies, 4-6oz for older babies!).

Bad idea with the syrup. My doctor said it washes the nutrients out with the poo. He told us pear juice. We put a little pear juice with water in a bottle and gave it to our first. Same with our second. Both kids were breastfed and please know that breastfed babies don't go as often after hte first couple months. Their bodies absorb so much of the milk because it is natural that they don't have a lot of waste.

Just a teaspoon full of Mineral Oil will help and not hurt your infant. You can find it in any grocery store in the same section as exlax. In the full bottle of course.

I had three doctors tell me to quit giving my daugher Kayro.. it could cause major problems just like giving them honey... she told me to give her a little bit of brown sugar in her bottle. It works wonders... and doesn't worry me about hurting her..
