Depending on the type and year of the tranny, it has a set of "bands" that run the gears, what probably happened was that you "stretched" a band and now the tranny won't shift into reverse. If it's a front wheel drive vehicle another problem you may be having is when you changed the fluid, the new fluid pushed all the garbage that collects in the tranny over time to the far end, which can clog the tranny and block certain gears from engaging.

Well, both of the first answers are right. And depending on how long you drove your vehicle before realizing you had a major problem, you may have blown a sprag, or need to replace some hardware (like a warped bell housing, or planetary gear set)
Whenever it gets to the point of a bad odor, changing the fluid is like going to a cemetary and straightening ties. It's just a little too late, and won't be effective. I definitely recommend an overhaul at a REPUTABLE transmission shop.
AAMCO and Cottman's are good. Both have nationwide warranties, but are also a little higher than the smaller shops(sometimes)
I wish you luck.

Sounds like your clutches are definetly burned. When you change the fluid, the new fluid is too slick for the old clutches.

2 volatile. yet whilst its purely doing it whilst its chilly and the trans fluid isnt black you proly dont desire a clean trans. examine the trans dipsick whilst its chilly if the fluid is pink and there are bubbles in it you are able to desire to easily have a foul valve physique and thats alot easyer and greater low-cost to repair
