From what I've seen, it's not as good as in the movies. To see the good stuff (cool streets, museums, entertainment) you have to some big cities, and you might find a lot of subtle but deep socio/economic inequality.
It depends where you go, too, because every city and state in the US is very different as far as being conservative, clean, well-planned, progressive. I think it's just like "any other country". One thing I tell ya, for being one of the strong economic world powers, the country has more problems than you would think as far as how it treats its inhabitants. In the US, money is everything. If your salary is not above decent, you can suffer immensely. If you work at minimum wage, you will suffer; you can barely survive, but you will survive though. And the good thing of course is that the government is not going to incarcerate you or execute you for your beliefs or opinions, in the general sense.

Until they finish taking it apart, we have freedoms guaranteed by the constitution. Otherwise, it depends on where you are. The USA is different in different places. We have jungles and farms and deserts and beaches and cities. We have good people and bad people. We have taxes, though less than most countries (believe it or not). We have a government that is SUPPOSED to be "of the people, by the people and for the people", but in reality it's more like for itself, but that doesn't make it different from other countries. It just has more power to put behind its convictions.
Most importantly, it is made up of people from every different culture around the world.

US people are stupid, arrogant, conceited, ugly or fat and ugly...its nothing like what you see on TV or at the movies.
but of course, I'm the only exception.
As far a wealth is concern, some are very wealthy and some are dead poor. So DONT think that everyone in the US are rich. If you do, you couldn't be more wrong. And its not that easy to get a job here.
Also, currenlty the US owe the most amount of money to the world.

Well... the USA is pretty screwy. we're gun-happy, politically inept and the evryday shmucks are too busy whining about how much life here sucks to do anything to change anything. We're a bunch of stereotypical idiots. That's why I enjoy the internet so much. No human contact with my crazy amarican neighbors.
Where are you from by the way? just curious.

America is somewhat similar to other countries. Throughout history, the USA has had it's ups and downs but there are many opportunities here. Every American should be happy that they have freedom. It's all how you handle it...

Do you mean to ask what the United States IS like?
That question has been being answered for 230 years as of this week. The final answer will never be known because our country will always be as long as there are people living here who love it and will defend it from evil people who wish to destroy it.
People from all over the world are willing to spend their life savings and risk death to get here. Why? Because we have Freedom. We have the Freedom to be as successful as we want; to pursue any career we want; to own firearms for protection and sport; to own as big a house or as many houses as we want; to speak out against our government without fear; to vacation where we want; to have as many kids as we want; to drive a car with as big an engine as we want; to be free from unreasonable searches of our homes and seizures of our papers; to practice our religion of choice; to own a boat, airplane or ocean-going yacht; to go to whatever college we want; to read or write any book we want; to be considered equal before the eyes of the law and to do many, many other things that are against the law in many other countries.
The natural yearning of Man is to be Free. No one chooses to live in chains. America is God's gift to Man. I believe He deliberately put the Founding Fathers all in one place at one time and gave them all the courage to rebel against the British to form a new country where Freedom was the Right of every citizen and not given as a privelege to an elite few by an imperious king across an ocean. America is Man's "second chance" to get it right. With God's continued Help, we will do just that...
